You're not pretty enough!

I have a guilty pleasure... Stupid Reality Television shows. Not all of them, but I probably like the shows that are the worst to watch. The show I'm going to be ranting about now is "Toddlers in Tiaras." I realize I'm a little late to the complaining game on this show, but who cares!

First of all, I love hating the show, because I can't believe the complete ineptness of the parents involved! It seems like they're setting up their kids to fail! The values being taught, at a very young age, is looks are everything.

Let's dissect this a bit, historically, what problems do we usually associate with a hyper focus on our physical appearance? I can think of a few, eating disorders, narcissism, bullying, depression, among many others. If you wanna tell your daughter she's pretty, then don't doll her up with, fake teeth, fake hair, massive amounts of makeup, over gaudy dresses, and skimpy clothing. After you've completed that list of "pretty" things, you've essentially just said, you're not pretty unless, you've applied several hours worth of makeup and fake prosthetic's. What's wrong with these people!?! Also, I think they don't have a right to be surprised if their daughters end up as strippers! If they have an argument for me, then show me which job, outside of "Beauty" would actually care that their daughter spent 90 percent of their childhood in over manicured pageants?

It's frustrating, and even more, is the lack of confidence I fear these kids will grow up with. There's nothing wrong with wanting to dress up, but there's everything wrong with making it the center of your entire life. Girls, you don't need to spend a ton of money on makeup, clothes, fake teeth and hair! If you have to seek love solely by your looks, then it's not love, but LUST. You should never say to yourself, they'll like me more if I look like that, or maybe he'll see me if I do or dress like this. STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT!!!

“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious” - 1 Peter 3:3-4 ESV

“You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.” - Song of Solomon 4:7 ESV

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” - Psalm 139:14 ESV

“She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.” - Proverbs 3:15 ESV

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.” - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 ESV

Don't follow the lies of this earth, put pride in yourselves, but most importantly, remember your Father in Heaven and how he created you perfect. No one else can make you perfect.
